In central Pennsylvania, over 9% of households receiving food assistance have at least one member who has served, or is currently serving, in the military.

This startling statistic inspired the creation of MilitaryShare, a Fresh Express Program of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank designed to provide fresh, nutritious foods for families. This includes all military branches, prior service, reservist or inactive ready reserve.

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank aims to be a leading provider of services that improve the lives of veterans and their families by providing the highest quality services; and continuing the fight against hunger by providing nutritious, nourishing food. Veterans face life-threatening challenges – many of which are the result of serving in combat – and deserve more help than the government can provide.

For the convenience and privacy of the individuals and families served, MilitaryShare distributions take place on-site at armories, VFW and AMVET locations throughout the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s 27 county service area. There are currently 28 distribution sites in central Pennsylvania serving more than 45,000 individuals through the program.

Veterans and members of the military help us in our nation’s time of need. It’s critical that we help them in theirs. They fought for our freedom. By providing them with food to feed their families, we are fighting for their future.

Nutritious Food:
While the specific items distributed will vary, each registered family typically receives fresh produce, one quart of fresh milk, one dozen eggs, cheese, and a box of pantry staples such as soup, pasta, sauce, and cereal. When available, meat, fish and poultry products may also be included.
